I just received this information from The Mountaineer:

The Mountaineer is hosting the first annual Great Adirondack Trail Run on June 25th. The run is a benefit event for the Ausable & Bouquet River Associations and is sponsored by Patagonia as part of their Environmental Benefits Program. Secondary sponsors include Salomon, Smartwool, Montrail, Honey Stinger and Trail Runner Magazine.

There will be two runs: and 11 mile run along the back side of Giant and down into Keene Valley (THIS EVENT IS FULL) and a 3.5 mile fun run (or walk/hike) from the Baxter Mountain Tavern to Keene Valley. Information on these two runs can be found on the Mountaineerâ??s web site, www.mountaineer.com.

The run will be followed by a celebration of spring and the Mountaineerâ??s 30th anniversary, held at â??Riversideâ? next to the Mountaineer in Keene Valley. There will be live music, awards, food, dinner, and beer provided by Lake Placid Pub & Brewery.

The Ausable & Bouquet River Associations are both local, hands on stewards of the two major rivers that originate in the Adirondack High Peaks and run through Keene Valley on their way to Lake Champlain. They will hold a scavenger hunt for children the morning of the run and a river dance competition in the early afternoon. Prizes for both events (and the trail runs) are being provided by the sponsors.

â??The response to our first trail run has been overwhelming,â? race director Jan Wellford exclaimed. â??We think it is a combination of the uniqueness of the trail run, which will have a 3200 foot elevation gain, the timing of the event, and the worthy causes we are trying to support. We hope people will come to run, walk, or hike the 3.5 mile run even though the 11 mile run is full, or just come and enjoy the music, food, dancing and a cold beer.â?
