Chris Sharma Sends Neanderthal

Chris Sharma sent Neanderthal, a possible 5.15b (9b), in the Santa Linya cave, Spain.

Seen in Dosage V, Neanderthal follows a long and sustained 40 meter line with a hard dyno near the top of the wall.

Reel Rock Film Tour Info and Trailer

In just a couple weeks, the 2009 Reel Rock Film Tour will kick off in Boulder on September 10. There are two main attractions for this fourth installment of the tour. Big UP will present Progression featuring Chris Sharma, Kevin Jorgeson, and Tommy Caldwell.

Sender Films and Nat Geo Adventure Channel will preview First Ascent: The Series, a new TV series set to air in January 2010.

The Reel Rock Filmmaking contest is also back this year. Last years entries were quite good, so don’t forget to vote by August 31.

Chris Sharma Climbs Pachamama, a New 9a+/5.15a in Spain

Chris Sharma writes on his blog at MVM that he’s sent a new 9a+/5.15a project in Oliana, Spain called Pachamama.

His description of the route:

Pachamama is a blue wall just to the right of my other route Papichulo 9a+. Its 50m long and very pumpy and psychological.

Chris Sharma Makes FA of Demencia Senil, a New 9a+ in Spain

Daila Ojeda reports that Chris Sharma has made the FA of Demencia Senil, 9a+, at The Laboratory, Margalef. Margalef is a climbing area located south of Barcelona, Spain.

The condition for climbing is perfect now! We have been taking advantage of the great weather these days… and today in Margalef Chris did the first ascent of “Demencia Senil” 9a+. One incredible overhang in the Laboratory.

Climbing Magazine 2008 Golden Piton Awards

Climbing Magazine announced its 2008 Golden Piton Awards. Some of the winners included Chris Sharma for his send of Jumbo Love (5.15b), Beth Rodden for the FA of Meltdown in Yosemite, and Paul Robinson for his more than 80 problems rated V11 or higher last year.

As with last yearâ??s GP awards, weâ??ve prioritized vision (being the first, or interpreting old testpieces in a fresh, unflinching way) over volume, with an eye toward honoring those recipients who havenâ??t yet sat at the table. Chris Sharma Slide Show at the New River Gorge

For those if you in the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S., there’s an upcoming event you won’t want to miss.

Chris Sharma is coming to the New River Gorge on Saturday, October 25th, 2008. He’ll be there for a slide show and the Dead Point Magazine Launch.
From the New River Mountain Guides:

Come down for the weekend and climb and have the opportunity to meet him in person and watch his amazing slideshow.

Chris’s life has allowed him countless experiences during his travels from one edge of the globe to the other and you can experience them with him as he recounts these moments LIVE! Moments such as sending Necessary Evil (14c) at 14 years old, his groundbreaking ascent of the Mandala, solidifying the first ascent of a 5.15 with Realization, the first ascent of Dreamcatcher and the monumental send Pontas Arch!

This is the first slideshow tour Chris has ever given in the dirty South, and it’s exclusively available only to Evolv and Sterling Rope dealers. Chris is going to be showcasing his Sharma Signature Series, his personal line of climbing shoes he developed with Evolv Footwear.

Show starts @ 8:00pm with the Dead Point Magazine party with a hip-hop
