I finally got around to watching last week’s Louder Than Eleven and ClimbingNarc‘s Talkshow #1 The Show With No Name. Brian interviewed professional climbers Paul Robinson and Alex Johnson on a variety of topics including viewer submitted questions. I found the training discussion (first 20 minutes) particularly interesting. Looking forward to the next one!

How to Fit a Backpack

Gregory Mountain Products founder, Wayne Gregory, discusses how to fit a pack. In the video, Gregory states “people don’t buy packs to fit their bodies, they buy packs to dump their gear in.” He then proceeds to show the better way of fitting packs.

Climbing Video: Free Soloing in Siberia Stolby Style

Jonathan Thesenga and Brittany Griffith visit the climbing at Stolby, a central Siberian nature reserve, where all the locals free solo – many barefoot and with homemade rubber climbing shoes.

Watching dozens of people simultaneously soloing these routes is amazing and frightening at the same time. Check it out:

Climbing Video: Heart of Stone, Climbing Access in the Southeast

On the theme of climbing access, please take some time to view the documentary Heart of Stone, a film from Andrew Kornylak and Josh Fowler.

This is a fantastic, must-watch climbing video. I spent a lot of time climbing and bouldering in the Southeast and this film really hits home emphasizing the access issues as well as nature of the climbing there.

From the filmmakers:

It’s no secret that the Southeastern US has some of the best rock climbing in the country. Grassroots organizations like the Southeastern Climbers Coalition and the Carolina Climbers Coalition are gaining and preserving access to this treasure in a unique way – by buying it. the annual Triple Crown Bouldering Competition – the largest outdoor climbing competition in the world – is at the center of this access revolution. This new film celebrates what many are calling a Golden Age of discovery and stewardship in the South. It’s a look at the miraculous mix of activism, generosity and respect for tradition, in the Heart of Stone.

Reel Rock Tour kicks off this week

The Reel Rock Tour kicks off in Boulder, Colorado this Wednesday. The third annual edition of the event will eventually hit over 80 cities to show climbing films including those from Sender Films and Big UP Productions.

This year there is also a filmmaking competition, where anyone could submit their best three minute climbing film.

I’ve already bought my tickets and will be attending the premier in Boulder. Check their calendar to see if the tour is coming to your city.
