Fitz Cahall of The Dirtbag Diaries recently launched a new site called The Outdoor Parent.
The Outdoor Parent is a collection of surfers, climbers and skiers who have embarked the greatest adventure — parenthood — and lived to tell about it. Stories, perspective and reflections on parenting, children and the outdoor lifestyle.
As I recently became a father, I expect I’ll be pouring over all these articles.
I suspect many of you are in the same position, so let me know if there are any other great resources out there like this one.

My hubby and I have been talking about starting a family for about two years. We keep putting it off saying “Well, one more summer of climbing…” This website came along at just the right time for us. It’s so reassuring to see that you can keep having fun (even more fun, really) with kids in the outdoors.
Kate, I felt the same for a long time. But then you realize that there’s always some excuse or reason to always put it off. We decided there would never be a “best” time to have kids, so we decided to get started. So far (2 weeks in!) I’d say we made the right decision.
I also have not had a lessened desire to climb as many would have you believe. The less sleep thing is, however, very real!
congratulations on becoming a father! 🙂 Great site…
you might also want to check out Outdoor Baby.
Thanks BJ, I’ll have to check that one out as well.
I’m now 19 and experiencing being a dad. I must say although it feels good it’s still hard. I knew it wouldn’t be easy but to be honest, the hard part is having to balance time. My daughter is great and makes managing her never dreadful. -Teen dad
